SOUTH CAROLINA COACHES ASSOCIATION OF WOMEN'S SPORTS

Constitution

Article I - Name

        The name of this organization shall be called the South Carolina Coaches Association of Women's Sports.

Article II - Purpose

The purpose of this association is to organize the coaches of women's sports in South Carolina for the betterment of women's athletics with the following objectives:
to promote, maintain, and improve the coaching profession through the presentation of the best methods, techniques, and any other phases that would benefit coaches individually and collectively:

continue to maintain the highest standards of sportsmanship and ethics among players, coaches, and throughout the community:

to cooperate with the South Carolina High School League in the promotion of a broad and wholesome athletic program for women.
 

Article III - Membership
Section 1.    Membership is open to all active coaches of women's sports in schools who are members of the South Carolina High School League and all active High School League certified officials.

Section 2.    Associate membership is available to any other person interested in promoting the purpose of this organization.


Article IV - Dues
 

Section 1.     The annual membership dues for active and associate members shall be five dollars ($5.00). Membership will be from August 1st to July 31st.

Section 2.     Lifetime membership after five years of active coaching, shall be one hundred dollars ($100.00) payable in equal amounts over one year, two years or four years.
 

Article V - Officers and Governing Board
 
Section 1.    The officers of the association shall be a President, President Elect, Vice President, Secretary, Public Relations Director, Executive Secretary Treasurer, plus eight Area Representatives who shall be elected by the membership.  Area Representatives shall represent the four classifications:

                    Area 1 - AAAA, Regions 1,2,3
                    Area 2 - AAAA, Regions 4,5,6,7
                    Area 3 -    AAA, Regions 1,2,3
                    Area 4 -    AAA, Regions 4,5,6,7
                    Area 5 -       AA, Regions 1,2,3,4
                    Area 6 -       AA, Regions 5,6,7,8
                    Area 7 -          A, Regions 1,2,3,4
                    Area 8 -          A, Regions 5,6,7,8
 

Each Area Representative will be responsible for the schools within their classification.  The fifteenth member shall be the immediate past President of the association who will serve on the board for one year.


Section 2.   All active members of the association shall be eligible to hold office or a position on the Governing Board as provided in Article V - Section 1.  The election of officers shall be at the annual July meeting of the association.

Section 3.    The President shall hold office for one full year.  The President shall preside over all meetings of the association and the Governing Board, call any meetings of the association of Governing Board, appoint all ad-hoc committees, appoint (with the approval of the Governing Board) all standing committees, serve as an ex-officio member  of all committees, and be a member of the Girls' Advisory Committee of the South Carolina High School League.

Section 4.    The President Elect shall become president at the end of the term of office of the elected president.  The President-Elect shall preside on the absence of the president, attend all meetings, assist the president, and coordinate committee meetings.

Section 5.    The Vice President shall hold office for one full year.  The Vice President shall attend all meetings and perform other duties as determined by the President.  The Vice President shall become the President Elect at the end of the term of office of the President -Elect.

Section 6.   The Executive Secretary Treasurer will be appointed by the Governing Board to serve for one full year and may be reappointed.  The Executive Secretary Treasurer shall attend all meeting, be responsible for membership and annual dues, maintain a current mailing list, submit a financial report at teach association meeting, have charge of all funds of the association and pay out all monies as directed by the Governing Board  The Executive Secretary-Treasurer shall be  paid $250.00 per year.  This may be adjusted by a two-thirds vote of the Governing Board present.

Section 7.     The secretary shall hold office for one full year.  The Secretary shall attend all meetings, keep minutes and reports deemed necessary to the association, and maintain a current mailing list.  The Secretary shall be appointed by the President.

Section 8.    The Governing Board shall serve for one or two year term.   The Board will be so elected that there will never be represented on the Board a majority of new personnel.

Section 9.    The Governing Board shall have general supervision of the affairs of the association, deciding all questions and performing all duties not provided for in the constitution.

Section 10.    Should a vacancy occur in the office of President during term of office, the President Elect shall serve the remainder of the term.  Should a vacancy occur in the other offices, the President, on the advice of the Board shall appoint a successor.

Section 11.    The Public Relations Director will be appointed by the President to serve for one full year and bay be reappointed. The Public Relations Director shall attend all meetings and be responsible for the publicity of all SCCAWS sponsored events and rewards.
 

Article VI - Meetings
 
Section 1.    The annual meetings of the association shall be held during the Coaches' Clinic in July.  The purpose of these meetings shall be  to act on the legislative proposals and resolutions previously submitted.  A majority of the active membership present shall be required for adoption of a proposed amendment.

Section 2.    Only active members will be allowed to attend the business meeting sessions of the association and to vote.
 

Article VII - Amendments
 
Section 1.    Any proposed amendment to the constitution must be in the hands of the President or Executive Secretary-Treasurer by June 1st.  All active members will be given at least two weeks notice of the amendment changes to be voted on at the meeting.
Article VIII - Budget
 
Section 1.    The President and Governing Board shall prepare a budget annually to be approved by the members at the July meeting.
